Many people don’t know how to deal with the unknown, which is why it’s common to see how some families in shelters overlook their special pets. This story provides a good example for all of us.
Zara was just a few months old when she was taken to Fix’Em clinic in Charleston, West Virginia, for a spaying surgery. The vet noticed some respiratory issues and decided she needed to be seen by a specialist first.
Zara was born with an asymmetrical brain and some organs on the left side of her face did not develop. They reached out to Itty Bitty Kitty Committee (IBKC), a local rescue group in Charleston, for help. Little Zara was fragile because her initial owner couldn’t provide the medical attention she needed to thrive.
They also didn’t want to take care of her special needs because this kitty wasn’t an ordinary pet. The rescue welcomed her with open arms. They wanted to do everything in their power to improve her life. Zara was taken to a local vet for an examination. It was quickly determined that she needed an MRI for intensive diagnosis and possible treatment. Everyone in the vet’s office came to meet the special kitty and gave her what she wanted: hugs and more hugs.
The kitty needed to be taken to a special center outside the state of Virginia for a proper evaluation.
Her health is very good and only requires a few care routines to live happily. Two IBKC volunteers immediately offered to travel with Zara to the Ohio State University Veterinary Medical Center in hopes of identifying her medical condition. After a few days, they got answers for the sweet feline.
Zara has sight and can breathe normally only on her right side. She has no left nasal passage, and one cannot be created for her. Her left eye did not develop. Her brain is asymmetrical but protected. No surgery is required. It is believed that this pet’s unique condition is congenital. According to the vet, Zara is who she is and is adorable, calm, and absolutely trusting. Most cats when adopted hide, but she arrived at her foster home ready to take over all spaces.
Just like any other normal cat, Zara loves to snuggle with humans or other kittens. She never complains when given her medications and is great company for everyone in her foster home.
Deep down, Zara, just like any other cat, just wants to be loved. Despite her medical issues, Zara has the sweetest temperament and longs to be loved. Don’t let this kitty’s appearance fool you. Her health condition is great, and veterinarians have been amazed at all the progress she has made, despite some limitations.
Zara’s foster parents know it won’t be easy to find a home for her, due to some people’s prejudices. However, she is so loving and exceptional that they have no doubt that when the time comes, the right person will be interested. If you’ve enjoyed this beautiful story of tolerance and acceptance, share it on your social media and show others that, just as with people, pets also deserve to be loved, no matter how they look.
